Song of the Week - #1 Walk with me in Hell- LOG

Well, so here I am. Back to revive my blog with a new series named- “Song of the week”. Music is my (maybe the only :P) competency and definitely my passion! This passion has mainly come from people sharing their interests and influences with me. I guess, now it’s time to share mine. :-)

I have ‘planned’ to post my opinions about one song every week now. As they say, most things don’t work out as you plan them, it might fizz out. But believe me I am going to try my best (:P) to keep things going. So watch out for it every Saturday!

As you have started reading this, I will invite you to walk with me in hell, will you? :D \m/

Starting with my personal favourite of them all- “Walk with me in hell” by Lamb of God. I started listening to them about a couple of years back (yeah I know I was late- I wish it were different) and this was the first track that I came across and believe me I was taken aback. Listening to it for the first time on Pavan’s insistence on Sudhy’s iPod during our induction (they called it the honeymoon period- which it surely was) at Delphi, I still remember the feeling. Oh boy! Was the music insane!!

The song starts off with an awesome piece on the lead guitar and then the most kickass riff kicks in! Mark Morton and Willie Adler both playing it in sync is something that makes it so powerful. Those cymbals and double bass that you hear till now were just the intro of what is one of the most difficult drumming pieces I have heard. Along with the riffs starts the modulating double bass from Chris Adler and that is what this song is about. Awesomeness from every musician in the band! It is a song where there is a perfect match of bass guitar playing with the bass drums. Randy Blythe’s high pitch, shrill growling is what keeps the evilness alive in the song. It makes you feel a definite aura of hell throughout the song.

With both guitars playing different harmonies (at 2:50) with Randy growling “Walk with me in hell” is the perfect build-up for the awesome lead to come in. The guitar lead from Mark Morton starts off (at 3:23) and what I find great is the modulation of double bass and bass guitar playing in the background. It is 4x4 beat played with different modulations in rounds of four which makes the lead even more prominent!

Overall, the song creates a great environment for the lyrics to maintain their meaning of ‘hell’! It was a dream come true to listen to LOG playing this song live at Bangalore from as close as about 20 feet! :D

Hope you liked my opinion on this particular song. Feel free to share your opinions and criticisms! :-)

Will come up with a new one next Saturday. Till then, keep rocking! \m/
